France's Rock En Seine festival boasts an enviable line-up with Bastille, Iggy Pop, The Last Shadow Puppets and more. Tickets are still available for the Paris based event, and we catch up with the festival organisers to find out more.
Rock En Seine has a brilliant line-up this year, can you talk us through some of your personal highlights?
We are very glad to welcome The Last Shadow Puppets as one of our headliners this year! Alex Turner was at Rock en Seine 2 years ago with Arctic Monkeys and it was already awesome. So with Miles Kane, it's going to be incredible!
We are also proud to have Bastille in our line-up for their only concert in France in 2016 ! Just like for Two Door Cinema Club, Clutch, The Shins, or Sum 41, and many others!
And of course, it's a privilege to have the rock legend Iggy Pop, who is performing on Sunday evening – especially with Foals following right after on the main stage. Finally, having Massive Attack for the second time as one of our headliners makes us very proud too, we are always excited to see them live!
How would you describe the atmosphere and ethos of the festival?
Even if our festival is very popular among 30-something Parisians, Rock en Seine welcomes the whole family with Mini Rock en Seine, the festival that allows children aged between 6 and 10 to live a rock experience during the 3 days of the festival with a lot of musical and playful activities. It’s a good opportunity to let them embrace our passion for music, but also to allow their parents to enjoy the festival and see their favorite artists peacefully. Everything is made to allow people to live their festival the way they want it.
Aside from the main line-up there are other things also going on at Rock En Seine like Avant-Seine. Can you tell us more about this and what you think it adds to the festival?
Rock en Seine has always been dedicated to supporting new artists and give them an opportunity to meet their audience. The Avant-Seine platform allows each year 6 young French talents to join our official line-up.
And we are proud to see that a lot of them became more famous afterwards like Fràncois & the Atlas Mountains, Feu! Chatterton, J.C. Satàn or Lily Wood and the Prick.
This year, our 6 Avant-Seine artists are very diversifed, just like our line up. We have rock garage with Kaviar Special, groovy electronic music with Maestro, poetic pop with O and Adrien Soleiman, and even hip-hop with the furious KillASon.
The selection was made by a panel of judges made of professionals of the music industry who have been wandering across the concert halls of France. It shows the importance that we put in this project.
All these young promising artists might be shaping the future of French music!
The festival is set within beautiful gardens in Paris. How did you choose the location for the event and why?
The idea was to create a significant music festival in Paris. The Domaine national of Saint-Cloud, with its garden created by Le Nôtre (gardener of Louis XIV) was perfect for that, because it takes place at the gates of Paris and has a beautiful radiance around the country and the world.
It is also a good location to welcome people from Paris, from France and from around the world. The gardens are maybe big, but the festival success to keep an intimate atmosphere.
What is your one tip for a happy Rock En Seine experience?
When you are at Rock en Seine, you know that you are going to have fun, but also that it's the end of the holidays. It could be sad, but it is our strength: people know that they have to enjoy their week-end more than usual, because it's going to be one of their last good memories of the summer.
So the idea is to enjoy the festival like there’s no tomorrow, and make sure you create nice memories.
