We recently went to see a fabulous new musical at the Phoenix Theatre, you may have heard of it, it's called The Girls! Based on the story of the Yorkshire Calendar Girls, it features music from Take That's own Northern heartthrob, Gary Barlow and book from the brilliant Tim Firth. Following its fantastic opening night on 21st February here's our round-up of but a few of the sensational reviews. If you need another excuse to see the show, we have seats from just £29.50.
Here's what See's Paul Watt thought of the musical:
“As a fan of this inspirational story anyway, I was more than looking forward to seeing The Girls. With Tim Firth having written for the film and previous stage play, it still oozed that touching yet comedic charm that the previous incarnations possessed. Though originally skeptical to the idea of turning it into a musical, I was pleasantly surprised, Gary Barlow's beautiful and often catchy music is a welcomed addition (although I now can't stop singing Who Wants A Silent Night). The casting is inspired, with every member of the ensemble delivering astonishing performances. An extremely enjoyable night at the theatre.”
