The Crystal Maze will at last open the doors to their brand new location, at Manchester’s Old Granada Studios. Once home to many great television programmes, including Coronation Street, Cracker and The Royal Family, the gigantic film studios make the perfect back-drop for the second incarnation of The Crystal Maze Live Experience, which was inspired by the classic TV show. (Could there be a better spot than next door to the Rovers Return?!)
In 2015, the public overwhelmingly backed Little Lion Entertainment’s dream of bringing back The Crystal Maze as a live experience that everyone could participate and star in. From the moment the project was announced the response has been remarkable and, to date, over 100,000 very happy people have been through the London maze – with tickets sold out for many more months to come.
Now it’s Manchester’s turn!
On April 1st, The Crystal Maze Manchester opens its doors in the very heart of the great city, with bigger and better zones jam-packed full of entirely new games, alongside new iterations of old favourites. On the decision to launch in Manchester, Tom Lionetti-Maguire (Founder of Little Lion Entertainment) said, “I’ve often been asked if we would build another Crystal Maze and, if so, where it would be. For me there was only one choice - it could only be in Manchester! Every time I’m in the city I fall in love with it a bit more. The people are great and the place is always buzzing.”.
Once in The Crystal Maze, groups of eight contestants are guided through four zones – Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Future - by a personal Maze Master. As they make their way through, contestants compete in a variety of games in four categories – Physical, Mental, Skill or Mystery - each designed to test their strength under pressure. The more games they win, the more crystals they get and at the end of their time in the maze, the crystals will be converted into precious time in the Crystal Dome.
In London The Crystal Maze has become the entertainment hit of the last 18 months and in Manchester promises to do the same. “Manchester is such a melting pot, with so many brilliant characteristics – grit, wit and a damned good sense of fun.”, says Lionetti-Maguire. “If the Crystal Maze is anything, it’s undeniably fun! I can’t wait for the show to open and for people to see what we’ve got up our sleeve…”.
