As one of Birmingham’s best attractions, The Birmingham Botanical Gardens boasts an array of outstanding horticultural and architectural magnificence that is a must see to feast your eyes on. Set on a historically beautiful Victorian park, The Gardens offer something for everyone; with four glasshouses that showcase an amazing range of greenery and climates – from Rainforests to Deserts, a butterfly house, beautiful gardens for you to explore, and a children’s playground.
But this winter, The Gardens are getting a festive makeover as Christmas at The Botanical Gardens opens on the 29th November to give you and your loved ones the perfect day out and celebrate all things Christmas. Follow the twinkling trail into a Winter Wonderland as you immerse yourself into glowing greenery and brightly coloured canopies, carol-singing cedar coppice that soar into the sky-studded sky, and the dancing flames of the Fire Garden; the entire Botanical Gardens coming to life with the spirit of Christmas. Afterwards, the show-stopping Pealight Tunnel awaits you – let its glimmering fairy lights surround you with festive cheer and make for the perfect photo opportunity!
In the run-up to this magical event, we spoke to Marketing Manager, Robert Barton, to get his view on why this day out is so festively spectacular.
Birmingham is a city that embraces Christmas, with a huge German market taking over the city centre every year, but why did you choose the Botanical Gardens to host the event?
We have previously presented illuminated festive trails at Kew Gardens for 4 years and Blenheim Palace last year, but wanted to bring this brand of festive magic to the people of Birmingham and the beautiful surroundings of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens - which will create a uniquely intimate trail.
Every year it feels like everywhere and anywhere hosts Christmas events, what makes this festive happening stand out from the rest?
This will stand out because of the beautiful and high quality installations on the trail that take place in the stunning surroundings of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. There will also be a varied selection of festive food and drink - including the opportunity to toast marshmallows in the fire pits!
Christmas is a very family-orientated time of year, but who do you think will enjoy this event the most?
It really is suitable for a very wide cross section of people - from families with children of all ages, to groups of friends in their twenties and upwards!
Will Santa be making an appearance?
Santa will be appearing on one of the installations and there will be an opportunity to engage and wave at Santa as you walk by!
