Further casting has been announced for the world premiere of TINA – The Tina Turner Musical, which runs at the Aldwych Theatre in the West End from March 2018.
Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Doctor Strange, Hamlet – Barbican, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead) and Madeline Appiah (Hamlet – Almeida) will play Ike Turner and Tina’s mother – Zelma Bullock – respectively. They join Tony nominee Adrienne Warren, who was previously confirmed as portraying the title singer.
Jenny Fitzpatrick is the alternate Tina, with Lorna Gayle playing Tina’s Grandmother GG, Tom Godwin as record producer Phil Spector and lyricist Terry Britten, Francesca Jackson as Ike and Tina’s manager Rhonda Graam, Aisha Jawando as Tina’s sister Alline Bullock, Natey Jones as Tina’s father Richard Bullock and Tina’s first love Raymond Hill, Gerard McCarthy as record company marketing manager Erwin Bach, and Ryan O’Donnell who will play Tina’s Manager Roger Davies.
They’re joined by an ensemble made up of Tsemaye Bob-Egbe, Keisher Downie, Kit Esuruoso (who will also play Tina’s son Craig Hill), Jammy Kasongo, Sia Kiwa, Jason Langley, Kayleigh McKnight, Baker Mukasa and Tanisha Spring, and swings Derek Aidoo, Gavin Alex, Edward Bourne, Candace Furbert, Hannah Jay-Allan, and Rodney Vubya.
The new production will be directed by the internationally acclaimed Phyllida Lloyd (MAMMA MIA!) and reveals the untold story of Tina Tuner daring to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race, from humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Written by Olivier Award-winning Katori Hall, the musical will feature choreography by Anthony van Laast, set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.
