London Fashion Week Festival’s Trend Catwalk Show will give you all the inspiration you need to master the key looks of the new season.
The days of monochromatic, stripped-back aesthetics are decidedly over: the 2018 Autumn/Winter trends are swapping understated minimalism for vivid, retro-inspired maximalism.
Prim & Prom
Taking its cues from 80s proms and 90s cocktail parties, the season’s first key trend showcases London designers including Mulberry, Emilio de la Morena, Isa Arfen or Molly Goddard.
Contrasts will be taking over the runway, with a whimsical interplay of sharp black tailored elements, voluminous flowing ruffles in jewel tones of emerald, sapphire and amethyst, shimmering fabrics, shoulder-skimming silhouettes giving statement earrings, killer heels and clutch bags room to sparkle. Whether you prefer classic, feminine prints, refined evening looks or daring accessories, these collection pieces will undoubtedly make you shine.
Check Mates
Checks, plaids and tartans have been adopted by musical subcultures for decades, from punk to grunge or hip-hop. For a preppier take on the tartan look, think Cher Horowitz in 90s classic Clueless, teaming mini kilts with mohair knits and cropped jackets.
Mix and match clashing checks in bright colours – orange, purple, blue and yellow – and dress them up as tailored separates and outerwear, or down by teaming them with denim and oversized pieces.
Prints Charming
The last few seasons have seen a striking resurgence in bold prints across catwalks. From breakout newcomers including London designer and Queen’s award winner Richard Quinn to established names such as Balenciaga or Gucci, bright florals and abstract designs have firmly been put back on the fashion map.
Let the retro look take centre stage with the 70s suburbia feel of Orla Kiely’s designs to geometric prints, long, billowing dresses voluminous skirts and oversized outerwear using indulgent amounts of luxurious fabric.
