Grand Designs Live: Green Finger Campaign

In line with its eco-ethos, Grand Designs Live, along with their official charity partner, Friends of the Earth will launch their Green Finger Campaign for the first time in Birmingham, helping to make more space for nature at this year’s event.

From food products and clothing materials, to medicines and mental health benefits, nature is essential to our daily life. The latest UK State of Nature report shows that over half our wildlife including plants, insects and birds, are now in significant decline.

Place your finger on the interactive map of the UK to show where you will be supporting this year’s campaign. Take home a free pack of Cornflower seeds to sow in your garden, whether you have a 7-acre plot or a 5sm balcony to work with.

An interactive quiz will be provided by Friends of the Earth to see if visitors can tell what fact from fiction is. Most of us still underestimate the number of species under threat, including UK wildlife.

Kevin’s Green Heroes

Each year Kevin selects his top eco-innovations of the year to showcase their products or concepts at the event. From small start-ups to established businesses, come and see some unique ideas. The ideas range from Moss Tiles, which are designed to encourage moss growth to improve air quality in the urban environment and Mapuguaquén, the world's first active sound system made of clay.

Turning the tide on plastic

Grand Designs Live continues to reduce the amount of single-use plastic used at the event. This includes prohibiting the sale of plastic bottles from all in-show catering points, as well as the distribution of all plastic straws and cutlery. They have also replaced the show goody bags with biodegradable alternatives. They're also encouraging visitors to use bottles, which can be refilled using stations at catering outlets around the event.
