See Tickets' Staying In Guide: Movies for Music Lovers

There are so many incredible films out there for music lovers it can be hard to know where to begin! Whether it's biopics, family sing-a-longs or feature length dramas, we've put together our top five movies for music lovers to get you started as part of our Staying In Guide series...

School Of Rock (2003)

This kid's classic is filled with top-to-toe rock 'n' roll as failed rock star Dewey Finn poses as a substitute teacher and curates his own school curriculum: rocking out. As the class form a rock band and come up with their own incredibly catchy hits led by protagonist Jack Black, the movie is interlaced with a killer soundtrack of classic rock from the likes of Stevie Nicks to Black Sabbath. A feel-good movie and must-watch, musical history lesson in one, available on NOW TV.

Rocketman (2019)

This award-winning biopic follows the iconic career and life of Reginald Dwight; from changing his name to Elton John and the heights of fame, to the struggles and hardships Elton faced throughout his life - including a challenging childhood. Set to a soundtrack of everybody's favourite Elton John hits to some, lesser known deep cuts, this is the sing-a-long feature length that will tug at your heart strings. Currently showing on NOW TV.

Whiplash (2014)

Following an ambitious jazz drumming student, Andrew Neiman, Whiplash is the no-holds-barred story of Neiman's struggles to survive in a ruthless instructor's, cut-throat jazz class. As the power dynamic constantly to-and-fro's between student and instructor, this Academy Award-winning movie will have you on the edge of your seat as every score and standard perfectly matches the rising tempo of their increasingly turbulent relationship. A Netflix must-watch.

Straight Outta Compton (2015)

Referencing their breakthrough album 'Straight Outta Compton', this box office smash-hit biopic follows the extraordinary rise, fall and everything in between for pioneering rap group N.W.A; intertwined with the personal narratives of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E. Produced by Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, the movie wouldn't be an N.W.A biopic without a killer soundtrack to match; a chart-topping mix-tape of N.W.A classics plus solo hits and deep cuts from the three rappers. Watch now on Amazon Prime Video.

Yesterday (2019)

Danny Boyle's latest film sees struggling musician Jack Malik re-imagine The Beatles' classics as his own as, after a freak accident, he realises nobody else remembers the band. Although in no way a biopic, Boyle's feel-good musical romcom celebrates and pays homage to The Beatles' much-loved hits with this family friendly, heart-warming feature length. Stream this unmissable film today on NOW TV.
