Best Music Videos of 2020 So Far

Global lockdowns and quarantines certainly haven't stopped artists across the world getting creative with their music videos... From heartwarming home videos to outstanding special effects, these are our favourite music videos of 2020 so far!

Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles

With days of teasers on Styles' socials, there were high hopes for his Watermelon Sugar music video premiere and it certainly delivered. Montages of smiley friends devouring watermelon behind flicking film footage on a sunny, idyllic beach is the perfect visual to Harry's sickly sweet, summertime hit.

Never Worn White - Kerry Perry

In this dreamy, heart-warming video for Katy's single Never Worn White, you might think at first glance that this is just a beautifully-lit ballad with extravagant dresses as she declares her love for partner Orlando Bloom. But the video goes to a whole new level when a glowing Katy shows off her very real baby bump, announcing her pregnancy with baby Daisy Bloom.

Superheroes - Stormzy

Dedicated to the late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, this powerful and beautifully illustrated video for Stormzy's new single 'Superheroes' is a tribute to heroes from all walks of life: "you are a superhero in your own right, don't ever forget that". With an animated Stormzy in the video opening a young boy's eyes to help him feel empowered, they go on a journey featuring the Black Lives Matter movement, Little Simz, Malorie Blackman, Dave, and Marcus Rashford just to name a few. This uplifting, heartfelt and passionate video is the important message we all need to hear right now.

I Know Alone - Haim

What happens when you combine sister trio HAIM, a global pandemic, flared jeans and a basketball court? The I Know Alone music video. Renowned for their well choreographed dance routines, even during lockdown HAIM haveĀ  killed this socially-distanced, slick routine.

WAP - Cardi B ft. Megan Thee Stallion*

*Viewer discretion is advised

Certainly the most discussed music video of the year, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's WAP has turned heads across the globe - so much so, the single achieved the longest-running number one hit by a female artist in the US just this week. With their lavish mansion full of exotic animals, celebrity appearances, and insane mise-en-scene with costumes carefully curated to each room's decor - complete with killer choreography to match; this video has raised the bar for music videos to come.

Dynamite - BTS

In their latest bubblegum-pop hit Dynamite, KPOP superstars BTS achieved over 100 million YouTube videos in one day, smashing the record with this much-anticipated music video. A feel-good single full of positive energy and good vibes, the video is nothing short of this message; adorned in pastel colours, cool street wear, and homage to iconic, retro dance moves. Guaranteed to make your day a little brighter!

Simmer - Hayley Williams

Paramore's lead singer Hayley Williams' video for single Simmer, from debut solo album Petals For Armor, could almost pass as a short film in its own right. Intense, poetic, gripping and at times borderline gory, in just over four minutes Williams takes us on a heart-stopping, abstract journey through the narrative of Simmer.

The Man - Taylor Swift

In The Man, Taylor Swift dissects the contradictions between the ways in which successful men and women are treated in the industry: "They'd say i'd hustled, put in the work. They wouldn't question how much of this I deserved." And she couldn't have emphasised that message better, completely disguising herself as a man in this Wolf of the Wall Street-esque music video; hilarious and yet powerful.
