"We love being at the forefront of emerging talent": A Q&A with Independent London Venue, Bush Hall

It's our favourite time of the year: Independent Venue Week. From 25 - 31 January, you will find a whole host of incredible venues up and down country celebrating the ways in which they help make the UK music industry just so unique.

At See Tickets, we've always championed independent venues. With over 50 independent venues under our wing, and official ticketing partners for Independent Venue Week 2021, we wanted to catch up with some of the UK's most loved venues. We spoke to the Company Coordinator from the magnificent London venue Bush Hall about the magic that is the UK's independent venues, what it's like to work in one, what the future holds for them and more.

Don't miss a whole host of upcoming gigs and shows later this year at Bush Hall.

What is the importance of an independent venue in the music industry and for the community as a whole?

We love our community of independent venues! They're at the forefront of showcasing the rich musical talent across the UK and creating a network of platforms for emerging artists.

What makes independent venues stand out amongst bigger or chain venues across the country?

Independent venues are much more personal – we love putting on artists that we're really excited about as a team. We've also loved supporting emerging talent, giving artists an opportunity that a bigger venue wouldn't be able to.

Where do you see your venue in 5 – 10 years?

We want to keep doing what we're doing! Our teams taste's in music are so hugely varied and we really want our line-ups to reflect this. We love being at the forefront of emerging talent and working with others in the industry. We want to keep being a hub in our community of West London and showcasing young, local talent as well as being a big name on the map for those, bigger acts on tour.

What is the most iconic moment to have happened at the venue?

It's our 20th anniversary this year so there's a lot to choose from… Up there is definitely being King's of Leon’s first venue on their UK tour!

Who has been your favourite artist to perform there and why?

We loved having Alicia Keys last year – we’d be lying if we said there weren't tears.

If you could have anyone perform at your venue who would it be?

That's a hard one - there's so many amazing artists around right now. As we're an Edwardian venue, our chandeliers and décor feel quite special. We'd love to do some secret shows…

What do you think the UK music industry would look like without independent venues?

Bland? Tired? Is that allowed? Independent venues create a much more interactive relationship between artists and fans. It's a much more personal, exciting experience for everyone involved. Without independents it would be a much more 2D industry.

What does your typical day to day look like working at an independent venue?

This year has been drastically different from most. Usually we're in the office early and have shows/events most nights – its not your usual 9-5! Everyday is different – every artist brings a different crowd and atmosphere.

What does it mean to you to work at an independent venue?

A lot. Everyone we work with is so passionate and excited! We feel lucky everyday to be working in an industry of such amazing, talented people.
