5 Minutes With: The Podcast Show

Podcasts are bigger than ever, and there truly is something for everyone. Whether you enjoy hearing conversation between industry experts on sport, film and health & wellbeing, or if you'd rather fall down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories and true crime, there's someone out there producing the perfect content for you.

You might even have your own podcast! Whatever the case, The Podcast Show is the perfect event for all podcast enthusiasts, beginners and professionals alike.

We sat down with The Podcast Show to discuss the talent on their many panels, the transformation from 'by day' and 'by night' and everything available at the show a budding podcaster could ever dream of.

First off, there’s a lot going on at The Podcast Show, including a ‘by day’ and ‘by night’ programme. Can you tell us a bit about the show ‘by day’ and how it will transform ‘by night’?

By day, the show will be buzzing with some of the brightest and most exciting talent from all corners of the podcasting galaxy. Industry pros, independent creators and business leaders will come together in a one-of-a-kind festival that’s brimming with inspirational and aspirational activities, from keynotes to brand activations and unrivalled networking. After dark, we’re turning up the volume with seven nights of live podcast shows in major venues across Islington, where you’ll be able to see some of the hottest and most successful shows brought to life onstage.

Industry giants and global talent like Louis Theroux, Gary Lineker, Munroe Bergdorf and many more are all lending their wisdom and advice in your session programme. What can someone attending The Podcast Show expect to take away from the session programme?

Whether you’re a seasoned professional, just starting out in podcasting or a podcast connoisseur, our session programme offers something for the entire podcasting community. As well as our big-name speakers you’ll be able to immerse yourself in conversations from industry behemoths like Amazon Music, Spotify, YouTube, BBC Sounds, Acast and more, with panels on topics as wide-ranging as growing your fanbase, monetisation, how to turn an idea into a show, representation, what ad-buyers are looking for, production on a budget, how to avoid a flop and other indispensable pearls of podcast wisdom.

Can you talk us through the differences between a day pass vs a live ticket?

A day pass gives you access to a full day of unmissable panels, speakers, activities and networking opportunities in Islington’s epic Business Design Centre - you’ll be able to meet brands, step into our ready-to-go pod studio and take a deep dive into the business of podcasting. A live ticket can be bought for any of the incredible shows in our ‘by night’ programme, with a glittering line-up that includes The Receipts Podcast, Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place, Kermode & Mayo’s Take, RedHanded, Florence Given and more.

You have a diverse selection of speakers from podcasts that focus on a whole range of topics from mental health, to film and television to sport. Are there any speakers that you’re particularly excited to learn from?

We can’t wait to hear from Munroe Bergdorf,  Poppy and Rubina hosts of 'Brown Girls Do It Too', 'Pressed', 'Kermode and Mayo', Gary Lineker, and of course Alice Levine in conversation with the legendary Louis Theroux and Emily Maitlis, as they share their experiences of the great and the good they’ve interviewed. As well as Wondery, Tortoise Media and 'What’s The Story Sounds’ panel discussion on how to create an investigative hit promises to be completely fascinating. We’ll also be making sure we’re front row for Miranda Sawyer in conversation with the infamous 'My Dad Wrote a Porno' podcast… but our programme is so jam-packed with outstanding speakers that we’re bursting with excitement for all of them.

If someone had their own podcast and was thinking of attending The Podcast Show, why would you recommend they attend?

The Podcast Show offers fantastic networking opportunities with some of the industry’s biggest players - the world of podcasting has never seen an event like this before. We have 150+ panels, 350+ speakers, experiential activations, a Creator’s Corner, pitch your podcast, careers advice, pop-up bars and brands around every corner. This is THE place to get your foot in the door with commissioners, expand your skills and sound out your ideas - all under one roof.

Finally… What’s your favourite podcast?

Don’t make us choose! At the moment we’re loving Spotify’s 'The Receipts' and 'Built to Thrive' from Amazon Music Originals - a daily podcast with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee.  It's just 5-10 minutes each week and we like the fact that every episode has a single theme, which gives you a new opportunity to change how you’re feeling - at the end you really start to see a difference.
