Meet The 2022 Mercury Prize Winner Little Simz!

Without a doubt, Little Simz is becoming the artist of a generation, and her Mercury Prize win last night is another accolade to prove it. The win makes the 28 year old, London born artist the 31st winner of one of the most prestigious awards in British and Irish music for her fourth album 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert', earning her the cash prize of £25,000. It is a triumph for the independent artist who has been grinding for the last decade, beating some incredible fellow nominees including the likes of Self Esteem, Sam Fender, Harry Styles and Wet Leg.

Of the record, the judging panel said the album showed 'lasting value and real artistry' and is 'the work of someone striving constantly to push herself', which you can hear all the way through the album in tracks like 'I Love You, I Hate You' and 'How Did You Get Here'. From start to finish, the record is a story of Simbiatu Ajikawo's life so far, a coming of age story told through her impressive lyricism, and cinematic production, with the help of her long-time collaborator and producer Inflo.

We've not been shy about our adoration of Little Simz, and we've been lucky enough to catch her live a few times over the years, and it is no exaggeration when we say her stage presence is other worldly. She is a captivating live performer, and it's where you can truly grasp her impeccable cadence and flow. Her delivery is second to none, sounding just as impressive as she is on the record itself.

So, congratulations to a well deserved winner. We don't think it'll be her last Mercury Prize win that's for sure, and we can't wait to watch her continued successes.

While Little Simz doesn't have any upcoming shows at the moment, you can look out for any future shows here!
