This very special light trail returns to light up the festive season with a brand-new trail design and spectacularly reimagined installations. Prior to the trial opening on Thursday 17 November, we caught up with the team to find out what we can expect from this year's event!
When visiting Windsor Great Park Illuminated what can people expect?
Expect a brand-new trail design, more dazzling than ever! Get ready to see the woodland and water at Windsor Great Park come alive with breath-taking displays of colour, glimmering reflections and flood-lit fountains.
At a cosy rest spot, enjoy mouth-wateringly good food, mulled wine and hot chocolate, or toast marshmallows at one of the fire pits.
Windsor Great Park Illuminated promises to be the perfect evening out where long-lasting festive memories will be made.
What part of the event are you looking forward to the most?
Here at Windsor Great Park Illuminated HQ, we are looking forward to welcoming our first guests and seeing how they react to all the new installations that feature along this year’s trail. It’s really special watching everyone experience magical moments and make special memories every evening.
How much planning does it take to put an event together like this?
The teamwork on this very special light trail all year round! It takes a big group effort, including the team at Windsor Great Park Illuminated HQ, specialist lighting designers, expert technical teams and our extended family at The Crown Estate. After its debut last year, we’ve spent a lot of time reimagining the trail to make it an even better experience. From October the team start work on building the trail so it’s ready for November, then in January when the event closes, we start planning for the following festive season.
What goes into creating the festive atmosphere?
To create the ultimate festive atmosphere, we take a holistic view of the entire event, from the lights to the route through the most picturesque and atmospheric parts of the location at Windsor Great Park, the music soundscapes and of course the food and drinks on offer. We aim to create an impressive, awe-inspiring trail that twinkles in the dark and makes our guests feel warm and cosy inside.
What would you say will be this year’s talking point?
All we can say is we are very excited about the event this year! Our all-new trail design is going to be spectacular (if we say so ourselves), perfect for all ages with magical delights around every corner that we can’t wait for you to see.
Why do you think Christmas trail events have grown so much in popularity over the last few years?
After the difficulties we all experienced the past couple of years, Christmas light trails have grown in popularity for a number of reasons. They’re fun for all: a feel-good activity that appeals to a wide range of people, all ages and an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends in a beautiful outdoor setting, be wowed by magical light displays, and with good food and drinks along with of course, marshmallows for toasting. What’s not to love; it’s the perfect evening out.
We are a big fan of light trails, but there’s only one we will be visiting this autumn-winter…🎉
