5 Minutes With Scouting for Girls

With multiple Top ten singles and albums as well as BRIT award and Ivor Novello nominations to their name, Scouting for Girls are undoubtedly a big name in the music industry.

The group recently celebrated their 15th anniversary and so we caught up with the bands drummer Pete Ellard to chat anniversary, tour and what else we can expect from Scouting for Girls. Check it out below.

Your debut album was released 15 years ago this year, how does that feel?

It feels great! Not many bands get the longevity that we’ve managed. So to get to this point, feels like a real achievement. Also, it makes me feel really old!

How has your music/music influence changed or developed since your debut release?

Not at all really!

You’ve achieved a huge amount in those 15 years, is there a highlight or moment that stands out the most?

This interview is up there, without a doubt! And of course supporting Mr Tumble at a festival a few years back. Absolute pro, the best in the business at what he does.

You’re set to head out on your ‘The Best Of…’ tour soon, is there anything you’re looking forward to the most about being back on the road?

It’s always great going out and playing live, it’s really what we’re all about. Getting everybody dancing and having fun, it’s just a great feeling. Also getting away from having to load the dishwasher for the next couple of weeks. I always put something in that’s non-dishwasher proof and end up turning everything orange!

And what can people expect from the tour?

A best of set!

You’re definitely a heavyweight, long-standing band in the industry, is there a secret to having a great relationship as a band?

I like to use the term ‘light heavyweights’. I think the secret to having a great relationship as a band is probably having three mortgages, two divorces, and having to heat the outside pool! It’s amazing what you’re put up with from your bandmates when you have to pay for all these!

You’ve already been confirmed to play at some great festivals next year including Warrington’s Neighbourhood Weekender, are you looking forward to this? What can the crowd expect from the set?

Yeah we’re really looking forward to Neighbourhood Weekender. It was so great last time when we played to a full tent, so to be on the main stage in 2023 is going to be brilliant. We are working on some new tunes, so hopefully you might be able to hear some of them.

Finally, what else can we expect from Scouting for Girls in 2023? New music maybe?

We are always working on new music. We have a tour with Olly Murs, and a full summer festival schedule. If there’s a field near you, we will be playing in it!
