Here, we have collated some of our favourite independent and rising artists for you to get to know and show some love for, for 2023 and this Valentine's.

Cian Godfrey, better known as Somebody's Child, is a France-born Irish alt-indie pop artist. He began his musical journey playing on the piano at age five in his family apartment in Paris. He later moved back to Ireland and acquired an interest in song writing, using it to tell his own stories. His songs typically reflected on difficult mental health experiences, as well as what it was like to grow up in Dublin as a youngster. He released his first EP 'Make You Alright' back in 2018 and has since made appearances on The Late Late Show, opened for the Kaiser Chiefs just before the COVID lockdown, and went on his debut tour at the back end of 2021. He has just released his first self-titled studio album 'Somebody's Child' on the 3rd February 2023, including upbeat and feel good songs such as 'Jungle', 'You Know What', and more. Comprised of Charlie Woods, Jake Mac, John-Paul Townsend, Tom Forbes, and Coco Varde is late 2017 Manchester-formed band Chappaqua Wrestling. The South London based group was originally formed by principle members Woods and Mac, and was then later joined by the rest of the band members after moving down south. Their music sways towards a grunge, brit-pop, and shoegaze vibe. They have been praised by BBC Radio 1 and Radio 6's DJ's such as Annie Mac, Steve Lamacq, Phil Taggart, and Radcliffe and Maconie, plus support from BBC's Huw Stephen's and Jack Saunders. They've toured with and supported amazing artists like Mark Ronson, Kurt Vile, and Anderson .Paak and are now going on their own tour across May 2023! They recently released their latest single 'Wide Asleep' and are set to release their debut album this February! Don't miss out.

21 year-old Etta Marcus is a singer-songwriter based in London, who has made a great impact in people's lives with her music. In an Independent article, it talks about how people include her lyrics in their dating app profiles, stating that liking her music is a non-negotiable, just showing how much people relate to her music and see her music as a lifestyle choice. She describes herself as an "alternative" artist, where she is able to weave together complex emotions and melodies into her music, allowing her to attain multi-million number streams on songs such as "Hide & Seek' and 'Salt Lake City'. Her latest EP 'Heart-Shaped Bruise', released January 2023, and is set to play across three different venues this March. Don't miss out and get your tickets now.

Stepping into the music scene at age 12 with a video of her singing on YouTube that gained thousands of views, is Billie Marten, a British singer-songwriter and musician from North Yorkshire. Riding the genre of alt-indie, her music provides a comforting and soothing vibe, for those evenings you feel like lighting some candles and relaxing with your music playing in the background. Her writing follows themes such as relationships, mental health, social commentary, the struggle with modernity vs tradition. She was nominated for the BBC Sound of 2016 and released her critically acclaimed debut album 'Writing Blues and Yellows' the same year, when she was just 17. She now has three studio albums, with the latest released in 2021, and has toured frequently throughout the UK and US and is set to embark on a UK tour across May 2023, proceeding the February 6th release of her latest songs 'Nothing But Mine' and 'This Is How We Move'.

Malady is a British alternative-indie quartet, consisting of band members Ash, Charlie, Percy, and Khaleem. The group have stated dub, post-rave, early dubstep, indie guitar music and IDM as main influential genres that drive the music they make, which encompasses the eccentricity of everyday life and the "natural surrealism' of living in London. Despite currently having 20.6k monthly streamers on Spotify, they have amassed an amazing 1.03m streams on their single 'London, I Love You But You're Pulling Me Down', a track full of upbeat dance rhythms, blended with post rave and indie guitar music that expresses the love/hate relationship they have with their hometown. They have just released their latest single 'Pressure Builds' and are set to play a show at Corsica Studio, London later this year. This is one not to miss.

Following the success of their early 2020 debut album 'Forever Whatever', October Drift have firmly cemented themselves as an important presence in the rock/alternative scene, with their heavy, pop-inflected rock style, built up by their years of consistent writing and touring. They have already thrilled many audiences at festivals like Reading & Leeds, Glastonbury, and BST Hyde Park, as well as touring Europe with major bands like the Editors, We Are Scientists, Archive, and Slow Readers Club and are ready to cement their place as future icons. British R&B and alt-pop musician artist Brooke Combe's initial love for music came from the diet of Motown and Whitney Houston she was raised on. She went on to learn the trombone at primary school and then onto learning five other instruments in her teens, as well as taking up vocals for her Advanced Higher in music, upon her teachers suggestion. This suggestion helped her on her path towards a bright future in the music industry after her cover of 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' gained much acclaim, landing her a deal with Island Records in 2021 (The Scotsman). She has achieved successes such as selling out King Tut's and winning 'Best Female Breakthrough Artist' at the 2021 Scottish Music Awards. British R&B singer MORGAN is a fast-rising singer-songwriter from London, England and has been circulating the UK music scene for a few years now, first appearing to most as a feature on Rudimental's 2019 single 'Mean That Much'. She has been giving us mash-ups and covers on social media which landed her a record deal with the well-known DnB group Rudimental's record label Major Tom. Since then, she powered through 2020 releasing some of the first songs of her solo career like 'My Year' and 'Sanctuary', and then later released her debut EP 'Alien' in October 2022. She has also teamed up with big artists like Digga D and Nathan Dawe. MORGAN dropped her latest single 'In My Feelings' in April 2022, followed by an amazing visualiser music video. The song follows the narrative of a toxic relationship where she fell in love with someone she couldn't have. Better known as Lyra, is Laura McNamara, an Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Over the past few years, Lyra has become one of the most striking talents to come from Ireland, establishing herself on UK and International stages with breath-taking and captivating singles, alongside a unique style of visual representation, being described as "Beyoncé with a strong Cork accent" (The Irish Sun). She has made amazing strides in her career such as appearing at the IMAGE PwC Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2022, to give a special performance, and was nominated for 'Single of the Year 2019' at the RTE Choice Music Awards, for her songs feature in the massive hit series 'Grey's Anatomy' - 'Falling'. English Moroccan singer-songwriter and musician Zak Abel first began making music at 14 uploading videos of his work to YouTube. After being consistent he was eventually signed onto a record deal in 2014 and ended up meeting with influential producer, Joker. He first made a name for himself after supplying guest vocals on Gorgon City's UK Top 20 hit single 'Unmissable' and now achieves multi-million streams as high as almost 200m, like on his song 'Freedom' with Kygo, and has worked with other amazing artists like Saweetie and with Grammy nominated producer Kaytranada, on his 2015 EP 'One Hand On The Future'. Now, signed to BMG, he continues to make music blending R&B and pop and has just released his latest single 'What Is Love' earlier this month. Fronted by the singer Sammy Rae is Sammy Rae & The Friends, a band that is not only just band, but a collective of dreamers and artists that first consider themselves a family. The group flourishes together in the spotlight with a one-for-all and all-for-one camaraderie, alongside their undeniable chemistry and powerful vocals. Their sound is a mélange of Sammy’s influences, rooted in classic rock, folk, and funk, with a touch of soul and jazz. Some of their most popular songs are 'Kick It To Me' and 'Talk It Up' which both have over 13m streams! Originally from Lincolnshire, England is indie-folk singer-songwriter Elanor Moss. She started crafting her initial work whilst living between York and Leeds as an undergraduate. Despite growing up in a musical household, it wasn't until university that she started writing and performing her own songs. She went on to collaborating with artists by the likes of Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Howl & The Hum, and Rosie Carney. Her new EP 'Cosmic' was just released on the 3rd February, including songs 'Sorry Song', 'Catholic', 'Cosmic Memory', and 'Mary'. She stated that whilst writing and recording the EP she began moving towards acceptance, learning the importance enjoying the present, and forgiving herself for being imperfect.
