Summertime - FLO
Ruby
"Summertime" by FLO is the ultimate anthem for the sun-soaked season. With its infectious beats and feel-good vibes, this song will transport you to a beachside paradise. FLO's smooth vocals and catchy melodies perfectly capture the essence of summer, making "Summertime" the perfect soundtrack for your summer playlist.
Dandelions - Dear Youth
Michael
Coming off their 2020 album ‘Heirloom’, Dear Youth delivered that style of pop punk that pairs oh so well with sunny summer days. There are multiple tracks that could be listed here, but ‘Dandelions’ is the standout for me. With a cheerful and riffy opening and bouncy chorus it’s easy to imagine enjoying the weather and some cold drinks with your friends and reminiscing on the gone days of warped tour.
Surf – Mac Miller
Abi
Even though this isn’t your classic up-tempo summer classic, something about it feels warm and like an encapsulation of that relaxing summer feeling. The song features on the sixth and last studio album by Mac Miller, released posthumously in 2020 after he passed away in 2018. The album as a whole is a beautiful record, and this track in particular is one of my favourites to soundtrack a sunny day sat in the garden.
This Is The One - The Stone Roses
Callum
For me, The Stone Roses’ debut album will ALWAYS be the sound of the summer. Laden with sun soaked beats, atmospheric guitar hooks and ghostly vocals throughout – the record as a whole is perfect for soundtracking a day in the rays. ‘This Is The One’ especially reminds me of their immaculate vibes throughout the entire stadium during their comeback shows at the Etihad where fans from all generations were belting the lyrics out in unison. Magnificent summer memories.
Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People
Izzy
Pumped Up Kicks is a throwback Summer song, meeting several Summer song requirements. It's breezy, enjoyable, gives nostalgia to drinking in a field on a sunny day, and ultimately it's one you can sing-along to. The subject matter is a little troubling, sure, but it's done in that “happy songs about fucked-up things” way.
Calvin Harris and Rihanna – This Is What You Came For
Karishma
Released way back in 2016, this song still continues to remind me of Summer! It’s a real head bopper and always has me singing at the top of my lungs, with its catchy, pop-house, mellow tropical house beat. Although the song received mixed review upon release, you can’t beat a summer collab from Calvin Harris and Rihanna!
