Artist of the Month: J Hus

After a three-year hiatus, rapper J Hus announced his return to music and live shows earlier this summer. With multiple top ten singles and albums and a very recent Mercury Prize nomination, we thought it’s about time we named J Hus an artist of the month.

The British artist first gained popularity back in 2015 when he released single ‘Dem Boy Paigon.’ Since then, he has gone onto drop three studio albums, two EP’s and a mixtape. His return earlier this year commenced with single ‘It’s Crazy’ which earned him a Top 15 across the Official UK Singles Charts, followed up by the explosive track ‘Who Told You’, which features Drake. The single earned him the biggest first-week streams of 18 million worldwide, and a number two across the Official UK Singles Charts!

If that wasn’t enough, the rap heavyweight then went onto reveal details about his third album ‘Beautiful And Brutal Yard’ which dropped last month to a great reception. The album features a stellar lineup of collaborators including Burna Boy, Popcaan, Jorja Smith, CB, Naira Marley, Villz, Boss Belly and the iconic Drake.

Just over three years have passed since J Hus released his second studio album ‘Big Conspiracy’ – the one that bagged him a Best British Male BRIT Award along with his first glance at the top of the UK Album Charts. His debut offering ‘Common Sense’ hit the shelves way back in 2017 and cemented him as a rap heavyweight and UK rap darling, and a number six spot on the UK Albums Charts. In between his first and second albums J Hus also featured on some best-selling records for some of the industry’s most historic artists such as Dave, Skepta, Stormzy and Ed Sheeran.

His comeback third offering has certainly made its mark, becoming his second number one album to hit the charts. With it strong beats and even stronger lyrics the album embodies the qualities of a top rap offering, as title track ‘Intro (THE GOAT)’ states Hus’ intentions with its lyrics. In the 19 songs, the rapper provides a mix of slow, chilled out and punchy tracks showcasing some slow rap at times too.

Following news of the new album, J Hus also announced a string of UK tour dates for November this year. Set to visit Manchester, Birmingham and London, you can get your hands on tickets now, so don’t miss out!
