Top Ten Things to Expect at The Enchanted Forest

The Enchanted Forest is an award-winning annual sound and light show which transforms the beautiful Faskally Wood in the Scottish Highlands into a magical destination each October.

It is a trailblazing event that is creative, energetic, and entertaining, it has some of the best creative minds in the UK all working together to create entrancing visuals, an original music score and stunning visual effects to celebrate the outdoors. The event showcases Scotland’s natural landscape at its Autumnal best.

One of the UK’s most successful cultural events, The Enchanted Forest is set to take place from the 5th of October until the 5th of November this year. So, in anticipation of the event, we caught up with the organisers to ask them their top ten tips on what to expect...

1. A fresh theme

The Enchanted Forest never rests on its laurels but introduces a new creative theme every year. This year’s show is called “From the Deep,” and it has been designed to create a bigger splash than ever before! Visitors will be transported into the depths of an underwater world, transforming the forest into an oceanic experience where visitors will make their way around the trail, swept along by the currents and tides, on a brightly lit journey that will span the globe, discovering the mysteries of our oceans and its inhabitants. There may be some surprises along the way!

2. A spectacular light show

The piece de resistance of The Enchanted Forest is its spectacular light show over Loch Dunmore which uses music, animation, projection, beams, lights, and lasers to tell the story of bioluminescent creatures that are found throughout marine habitats, from the ocean surface to the deep seafloor. Definitely not to be missed.

3. Delicious food

If you are feeling peckish, there are loads of catering options on site from fresh wood-fired pizzas and fish and chips to salt and chilli fries and sweet snacks. You can plan your dinner in advance with the menus on the Enchanted Forest website, and vegan and gluten options are also available.

4. Autism friendly performances

The Enchanted Forest runs several autism friendly performances which help visitors avoid the busier times, have reduced bus queues and lets them be first on site during smaller capacity sessions.

5. A Bus

Our shuttle buses take ALL our visitors to Faskally Wood from the departure points at the centre of Pitlochry. Our visitors should arrive just before the start of their departure window detailed on their tickets, but not any earlier though – no-one likes a big queue! For customers with specific mobility needs, we have a limited number of car parking spaces on site for wheelchair users, and a “low loader” accessibility bus to make the event as accessible as possible.

6. Merch

We know you like to collect those fridge magnets! Our visitors can choose from a variety of branded gifts to remember their night at the Enchanted Forest. This includes the must have Enchanted Forest chunky knit bobble hats, tote bags, hoodies, and t-shirts and - new for this year – even more sensory toys for kids.

7. Friendly stewards

There is no need to get worried about getting lost! Our fantastic stewards are dotted around the forest to help everyone find their way. All our stewards are members of the local community, so they are also great for top tips on where to eat and drink locally too!

8. Toasted Marshmallows

Let’s face it, no-one's patient enough to wait for them to cool properly, but boy are they yummy when they are all gooey and runny, freshly toasted over an open fire.

9. Autumn Colours

Perthshire's Big Tree Country is resplendent in Autumn, both day and night, with the tree canopies changing colour naturally across the duration of the show run and making daytime Autumnal walks before the show a breath-taking must see.

10. A Natural Umbrella

The natural forest canopy has served our visitors very well over the years, covering the pathways around the loch and sheltering everyone from the rain that can be a prominent feature of a Scottish Autumn. But do not fear, we also have covered areas and stretch tents if the heavens really do decide to open up!

Hey, I'm Izzy, I'm a lover of all things music and fashion! I'm happiest at a festival or by the sea. You can probably find me with a whisky in my hand or taking pictures of King Arthur (my bunny).
