England cricket legend Stuart Broad is changing bats and stumps for boots and shinpads this summer when he joins the Soccer Aid for UNICEF line-up.
Set to take place at Stamford Bridge - the home of Chelsea FC - the huge charity football match returns to London on Sunday 9th June for what promises to once again be an incredible evening for a great cause.
We sat down with Broad to ask some quick fire questions on how he's feeling ahead of battling against the likes of Usain Bolt, Eden Hazard and more!
This is your first Soccer Aid – how are you feeling ahead of getting on the pitch?
"I'm really excited! There will be a natural pressure that the crowd brings and stepping outside my skill set comfort zone, I think the training will help me feel a bit more relaxed and get used to the teammates, as well as getting used to playing alongside different people."
How much do you think your career of sports will help the England XI at Soccer Aid 2024?
"Ultimately, I've spent the last 17/18 years playing in front of crowds - obviously with a different type of ball - it's an amazing buzz and amazing feeling, and it will be great to have that feeling again!"
How do you fancy your chances of lifting the trophy with England?
"I've got a feeling that the iconic style of the '96 Euro shirt is going to bring a victory to England! Obviously, it's a neutral crowd as we're all there for the charity, but maybe there's a bit of a cry for a pro-England atmosphere and a few England chants! Everyone can practice for the Euros! If England wins Soccer Aid, there's quite a big chance that we'll then win the Euros - if we come with that mindset, we can set the energy of a great summer of football for England!"
You’re in good company as a debutant with Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard also being first-timers – does being amongst those names add more pressure?!
"I'd be lying if I'd say no...the thought of Hazard running at me is petrifying! Lampard is the manager of my team, so he's coming home, as the Chelsea legend! If there's a manager that can get us over the line at Stamford bridge, it's Frank Lampard."
