5 Minutes With Old Mervs

Australian duo, Old Mervs are touring the UK for the first time this November! Childhood friends, David House and Henry Carrington-Jones are bringing their signature sound and energetic performances to fans in person. After selling out tours across Australia and New Zealand, we were excited to catch up with them to see what's coming next!

You're touring the UK for the first time this November! How are you feeling about it?

"We’re bloody excited! It’s the first time we’ve headed overseas to play besides New Zealand so that in itself is exciting, but we’ve always had a huge love and interest in the UK scene - especially those festival crowds!"

You've been able to support some incredible artists like The Wombats and Liam Gallagher - how would you describe that experience, and how did it influence your live shows and your approach to performing?

"The Wombats were some of the coolest blokes we’ve met. We saw for the first time what it was like to be a well oiled machine/band! Their song writing has always had a big impact on our sound and probably always will, listening from a young age so that was a super cool night. Liam was a funny one, he strutted his stuff on that stage and pulled off the rock dog aura!"

Are there places you plan to visit outside of performing? Any must-see spots on your UK travel list?

"No huge ones that we’ve aimed for but that big ass building in London, the Ben one or the go see the King would be sick and also those soldier things with the funny hats on their heads. Plus any place with a good Guinness tap."

Earlier this year, you were nominated for Best New Artist at the 2024 Rolling Stone Australia Awards - how did it feel to receive such a prestigious nomination, and what did that recognition mean to you at this stage in your career?

"Doesn’t mean nothing if you don’t win. If you ain't first you’re last. Nah in all seriousness we're pretty stoked especially starting out for fun with a love for music the whole time. So it’s a pretty cool thing to have happen."

How do you see this UK tour shaping your future plans?

"It makes us wanna keep coming, we’ve had a ripper reception in London and some other joints are selling alright. So that’s exciting for us."

You have taken the stage at many different festivals, which was your favourite to perform at?

"Yours and Owls was our favourite for sure."

What aspects of your music do you believe resonate most deeply with fans?

"The singalong aspects of songs and the rawness at times, but it’s really cool to see parts of it translate to them having a fun night at shows with us."

Describe in 3 words, what fans can expect from seeing you live next month?

"Laughter, singalongs, fun"
