This week, we got the chance to visit the Five Guys Named Moe team, getting the show ready for opening night at the Marble Arch Theatre.
This major new production of the Olivier Award-winning, smash-hit West End and Broadway musical swings in to the specifically designed venue from 29th August with the irresistible hits of the original king of jazz, Louis Jordan.
The production transports you to a red-hot 1940s New Orleans jazz club, complete with cocktail bar and band-stand, so we thought we’d put together five quick tips to help you get the most out of Moe!
1. Don’t Panic About Where You’re Sitting
We know the drill…"will the cheaper seats mean I’m stuck behind a pillar? what if I miss an important bit because I’ve chosen the wrong block to sit in?" and so on…
The Five Guys Named Moe Set Model
After thorough investigation, there basically isn’t a bad seat in the place. Firstly, the show’s performed in the round, meaning you get to experience this incredible musical from all angles.
Also, the production includes a revolving platform, plus dancing in the aisles, on the tables, and anywhere else the guys can find. So, as we said, don’t panic. Wherever you’re sat, you’re in for an absolute treat.
2. Get Ready to Get Involved
Five Guys Named Moe describes itself as “a theatrical event like no other”, and they mean it. This show is going to pick you up in its loving arms and embrace you from beginning to end.
You’ll be encouraged to sing and dance along, and get swept up in the whole thing. There’s something special added to get you to the bar at the interval too. Which reminds us…
3. Visit the Bar
OK, OK, we know…you didn’t really need that much encouragement from us for this one. Still, it’s always worth a reminder.
The Five Guys Named Moe Bar
Due to the Marble Arch Theatre being designed especially for this production, the whole venue is set up to transport you back to the enthralling jazz bars of 1940s New Orleans.
As you can see, the cocktail bar area is stunningly finished, and really feels like you’ve stepped back in time. There’s even a bandstand thrown in for good measure!
4. Don’t Go Straight Home
This production of Five Guys Named Moe is an example of what the people at Underbelly Productions do best – it’s not just a show, it’s a full day/night out! You won’t be awkwardly shuffled straight out on to the street once the musical is over, so feel free to stick around, grab a few more drinks and…
5. Enjoy Every Last Drop
Five Guys Named Moe is running for a strictly limited 12-week season, and it’s truly going to be something special. It’s high octane, punchy and (we got a sneak peek at the sitzprobe) sounds incredible. Plus, with Andrew Wright (Half a Sixpence, Singin’ In the Rain, Guys and Dolls) behind the choreography, it will be something to remember.
So, make sure you grab a ticket quick, and enjoy!
