In the first 'On Rotation With See Tickets' of 2022 we have collated a playlist packed with both classics and current favourites. Featuring everything from the iconic 'Somebody That I Used To Know' by Gotye (which has over one billion streams and counting!!) to indie-pop queen Caroline Polachek's latest single 'Billions' (unsurprisingly NOT related to the amount of Gotye's streams) - find out a bit more about a few of the tracks that we cannot get enough of right now!
Black Country, New Road - Good Will Hunting
Black Country, New Road's second album in as many years dropped last week and is already a solid contender for album of the year. Championed by the likes of Pitchfork ("softer and more melodic, the band remains just as challenging and delightfully confounding as ever"), The Guardian ("listen to the album from start to finish, over and over again. It’s a blast.") and pretty much every publication worth its salt - the jazz/baroque pop/contemporary orchestral soundscapes of BC,NR are nothing short of majestic. On track five - 'Good Will Hunting' - we see signature changes, several references to popular culture and genre defiant tones aplenty throughout. Simply superb from start to finish.
Wet Leg - Too Late Now
Capping off what was a phenomenal breakthrough 2021 with 'Too Late Now' back in November, Wet Leg's self-titled debut album (due 8th April via Domino) is one of the most highly-anticipated albums of 2022. Across 'Too Late Now', the Isle of Wight duo build towards a closing crushing crescendo via spacey instrumentation until the halfway-mark. From there on in we are introduced to the raw energy we have come to expect from Wet Leg on the live stage. If 'Too Late Now' is anything to go by, their album will be one of the best debut offerings we've heard in a very long time!
Their forthcoming headline tour has sold out, but join our waiting list below in case any last minute tickets become available!
Caroline Polachek - Billions
After featuring on tracks by Murkage Dave and Charli XCX last year, indie-pop icon Caroline Polachek is back with her own track 'Billions' and it is an instant classic. Opening with pulsating, blissful, electro-pop laden beats - 'Billions' comes to a sensational end with ambient and uplifting choruses. Across the five-minute ballad we are taken on a magnificent journey through the sounds that Polachek has delicately pieced together to create a mesmerising first single of 2022. We can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings for Caroline Polachek - with performances at Love Saves The Day and Parklife amongst her summer schedule, 2022 has the potential to be special!
The Maine - Don't Come Down
After the release of 'American Candy' in 2015, pop-punk favourites The Maine disappeared from social media and took themselves away to prepare for what would eventually be 2017's 'Lovely Little Lonely'. The opening track, 'Don't Come Down', was - according to drummer Pat Kirch - born out of frustration: "We were having a really hard time getting a sound we liked, so we just plugged the guitar right into the preamp and turned it up, and loved how it sounded," he explained to Nylon Magazine. Since the release of latest album 'XOXO: From Love and Anxiety in Real Time' last summer, we've rekindled our love for The Maine and found ourselves deep in their back catalogue!
Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
'Somebody That I Used To Know' is a track that needs no introduction - you couldn't escape it for the whole of 2012 after its initial release in January, and even now receives a brilliant reception when it randomly pops up on shuffle or the radio. Since rediscovering it ourselves recently, we cannot stop listening to this iconic bop from Gotye & Kimbra and it certainly feels like we have contributed to a good amount of the billion-plus streams on Spotify!
