CATCHING UP WITH JOSEPH J. JONES

See Tickets caught up with the latest signing to the Communion label, Joseph J. Jones, to find out what the fresh new talent has in store for this year and a little bit about the man himself.

When did you realise that you wanted to pursue a career in music and what brought you into it in the first place?

Well my dad's gotta good voice, my nan was a concert pianist and my granddad was a jazz guitarist so you could say it's in my blood.

When my granddad passed away I strangely got into his music through my nan. I was never really into music but started to feel a connection with older jazz and soul stuff. She showed me all the greats such as Chet, Miles, Oscar Peterson etc and I was hooked. I was never academic at school so I needed something!

How does it feel to be part of the Communion family?

Feel's special. I'm in a good place with Communion. I have the freedom to be real and I enjoy working with them. They understand what I want to achieve and are supporting where I want to go. Not many labels give you that straight off.

Which artists are you currently listening to and what’s been your favourite album or track of 2016 so far?

Always waiting to see what Kanye pulls out of the bag but I am always listening to a lot of Jazz, Johnny Cash, some Joy Division. All mixed.

Best track of 2016 so far is Bad Habits by The Last Shadow Puppets for me.

If you could describe your sound in three words, what would those words be?

Reflective. Soulful. Honest

Can you give us an overview of what you have planned for 2016 from a recording / touring / releasing side of things?

Writing all the time and been recording a ton at the moment. I plan on releasing a couple of things this year but you'll have to wait and see.  Got a fair chunk of music down now and some festivals booked up over the summer. I love the live aspect. You can see the monster come to life.

You can catch Joseph J. Jones live in London in May at a free show taking place at The Waiting Room. Tickets are on sale with See Tickets now.
